Chicken Soup

Today, still under the weather, I slept away my cold/flu.  Snacks throughout the day included 'Cold Calm' by Boiron, the makers of my favorite homeopathic product, oscillococinum.  I tried every kind of 'cold season' tea there is and I drank tons of fizzy emergency - the tangerine flavor tastes a lot like Tang, one of my favorite childhood drinks.

Tonight, I finally felt better and made two batches of chicken soup.  The first version had half a chicken, four carrots, four stalks of celery, thyme, sweet potatoes, onions, garlic, peppercorns, stock of course, Chinese rice cooking wine, the last drops of Gewurzstraminer and pearled barely.  I added spinach to my bowl before serving and let the soup wilt it.  The other version was a bit more ascetic.  It contained the other half of a chicken, broth, onions, garlic, celery, barley, and at the last minute I added zucchini.  Both were delicious.  I had cough syrup for dessert.
