It's been an age since I posted, I won't even bother with excuses. To celebrate my return to the blog and tonight's first Gossip Girl episode of 2011, I was going to get some champagne to toast all the wonderful beginnings but's it's 6 degrees outside and as much as I love bubbles, it's too cold to pop a bottle. Well almost. I started the evening at my new favorite restaurant, Red Rooster, and had a glass of Cava there before I headed home to gear up for my favorite guilty pleasure. The Rooster deserves its own dedicated post so I will give it its due very soon.
Being at Red Rooster was actually a perfect warm up for watching Gossip Girl because there's such great people watching there. It's exciting to be in Harlem, and it's always stimulating to be in a new "it" spot and it only gets better when said it spot serves great food, has good music, an inviting bar and an eclectic crowd of people. Though quality-wise Red Rooster is heads and tails above Gossip Girl, I probably appreciate them for similar reasons. The shots of New York City, the music and fashion in Gossip Girl make me feel excited about being in New York. It gives this glamorous image of the city that you can kind of step into and be entertained by for an hour. Red Rooster does the same - it gives you a different scene, a polished, warm, sophisticated and diverse world for you to relax in and it makes being in New York that much more stimulating.
But let me get back to Gossip Girl. So, when I got home, even though I really wanted to break out my Gossip Girl champagne flutes, I decided to warm up by making a decadent hot chocolate. I heated some cream, chopped some dark chocolate, put the chocolate into the heated cream, added milk and vanilla extract, whisked it all and drank a beverage so rich and amazing it could have been dessert, or dinner, or both. In a word: Yummy.
Then Gossip Girl came on and it did not disappoint. There are two new characters on the show, the Thorpes - a father and daughter team and they're African American. And they're paid, like Chuck Bass paid. It looks like they might become major characters and I say here here - it's nice to see some people of color in the Gossip Girl crew. I'm also hoping that Serena and Dan will get back together because they make me love television love. Meanwhile I noticed that while the Van der Woodsens did drink champagne in tonight's episode, they are using different champagne flutes this season, I prefer their old flutes though. One thing I like about GG is that they always film in cool New York restaurants and clubs, tonight they were in Tom Colicchio's latest, Riverpark. I would be thrilled if they had a moment at Red Rooster, then some of my favorites worlds could combine.
