Have you ever had a day so long, a week so laborious that coming home and sitting down to drink a glass of wine is almost as exhilarating and delicious as a first kiss? Granted it's only Tuesday, but I've been in high productivity mode and tonight was one of the first nights I've treated myself to mindless relaxation for a while. Last night's Gossip Girl fest doesn't count as technically I worked late-ish up until the episode aired.
Anyway, I haven't had a glass of red wine in a while, so I went down to Astor Wines and Spirits and picked up two bottles of organic red wine. I'm keen on organic and biodynamic wine these days because I figure if I prefer buying and eating organic produce why not try to do more naturally made wines as well? The wine I started out with is called You Are So Nice, it's from the Loire region and it's made from Gamay and Malbec. It was in Astor's fancy cool room so it is apparently to be quaffed at a slight chill. To be honest, I can't decide if I like it or not. It reminds me of vinegar which I know sounds really horrible, but I'm actually quite fond of Bragg's Organic Apple Cider Vinegar and use it regularly - so it's just a flavor I think of a lot. It's also very rich and berry heavy and it seems to pack a punch. Just one glass and I feel almost tipsy. I think I might like it more tomorrow.
After going to Astor, I wanted to check out ABC Home to look at their selection of Astier de Villate products but the store was closed so I decided to go to Eataly. It's been an age since I was there last and it seems the crowds are finally more manageable. At 7:30, there were a lot of people but it was easy to get around and none of the lines were long. I bought the cutest baby brussels sprouts ever, they are the size of the tip of my thumb.
When I got home, I spread some goat cheese on a baguette I got from Eataly, poured myself a glass of wine and flipped between Honey, Glee and something else on television. Then, our handsome, intelligent president came on and I made risotto. Perfect relaxing Tuesday.
